THE AMERICAN SEAT SKYLINE

One country. Thousands of places to gather.

The visual expresses the idea of spectator seating as a national skyline. It is a conceptual illustration, not a point-by-point rendering of the dataset; the interactive map above is the geographic reference.

As the inventory expands, we can create an accurate 3D skyline directly from verified venue coordinates and seating totals.

Methodology & coverage

Counted: A physical stadium or arena appears once, even when multiple teams, leagues or sports use it. The published seat count is a listed fixed-capacity sporting configuration, not a total of tickets sold. The NCAA expansion includes selected football venues (FBS, FCS, DII, DIII) plus a smaller sample of college basketball and hockey arenas, including women-specific facilities. Use the NCAA filter to inspect what has been entered.

Coverage limitation: The NCAA inventory is a research sample, not yet an exhaustive Division I, II or III census. Capacity sources include league/stadium directories and individual college athletics pages. Many NCAA rows are marked directory-listed; verification pending, and coordinates are approximate for map exploration. The big totals reflect only the venues currently represented and should not be interpreted as all U.S. sporting seats.

Never included: high schools or high-school-specific venues, standing-room-only estimates, temporary festival grounds, closed historic venues, or duplicate venue counts. College teams playing in an existing professional facility are listed as additional tenants without adding a new venue.
